Welcome to our special week of celebrations, highlighting the annual Elvis Week festival at Graceland. For today’s post, we’re going to focus on the legend of Elvis Presley’s 1968 Comeback Special.
2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the Comeback Special. In 1968, Elvis had just spent seven years in Hollywood making comedies, feeling more and more distant from the world of music. As he said, in his own words: “I sure lost my musical direction in Hollywood. My songs were the same conveyer belt mass production, just like most of my movies were.” Eventually, he decided that he had to return to recording and performing songs.
With the Comeback Special, Elvis burst back onto America’s television screens with a new sound and a new performance style. The special was a huge success, and the King himself was overjoyed to be a rock’n’roll star once again.
Take a look through our collections of musical and Hollywood memorabilia, and you’ll find this treasure. An original black-and-white photograph, hand-titled “’68 Comeback”, shows Elvis on stage in his moment of glory. And it’s printed on museum-quality, acid-free paper that will live as long as Elvis Presley’s fame.
Our goal at Millionaire Gallery is to bring history to life. And with today’s highlighted collector’s item, we’re going to do just that. You can own a piece of Elvis’ return to fame. Remember to watch out for more posts and memorabilia, as we celebrate Elvis Week here at Millionaire Gallery.
