U.S. Presidents display by Millionaire Gallery

On the day the U.S. decides whether its next president will be Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, golfing memorabilia once belonging to George H.W. Bush and John F. Kennedy will hit the auction block. Up for grabs is Bush’s Titleist Scotty Cameron “Big Sur” chest putter, a Callaway “Big Bertha” golf bag with a Cape Arundel Golf Club membership tag, engraved “President George H. W. Bush, Member” and several golf balls bearing his signature or presidential seal, according to CNN.

Another item, a personally-owned and used golf ball, belonged to JFK who would often practice on the White House lawn.

In the past golf ball sets belonging to the late president have sold for more than $30,000, though this particular JFK collection is expected to go for far less – like, $25,000 less.

“Winning isn’t everything, but wanting it is… It’s a funny thing, the more I practice the luckier I get!” – Arnold Palmer.

Legendary gold icon Arnold Palmer passed away at the age of 87 this week.

The son of a greenskeeper, who wasn’t allowed to golf on the course his dad cared for, Palmer will forever be known as The King of Golf. A true champion, Palmer’s lifelong career as golf’s greatest ambassador led to accolades and achievements such as receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal, a 1974 induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame and bragging rights as the first golfer to surpass $1 million in earnings.

RIP, Mr. Palmer. You will be missed.

Tiger Woods Loses Million-Dollar Autograph Lawsuit

After more than 45 minutes of testimony from Tiger Woods on Monday following his dismal final round at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, a Miami-Dade jury found ETW, Woods’ company, liable “for deceptive and unfair trade practices” and awarded $668,000 (about $1.3 million with interest) to golf memorabilia retailer Bruce Matthews of Gotta Have It Golf, according to Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.

“This has been a long time coming,” said Eric Isicoff, one of Matthews’ attorneys. “The behavior of ETW Corporation has been reprehensible and we are very pleased with the jury’s verdict.”

ETW is expected to appeal.

Woods received a trial subpoena to testify in Miami-Dade Circuit Court the night before the start of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral.

Bruce Matthews, President of South Miami-based Gotta Have It Golf, a golf memorabilia retailer, sued Woods’ Corporation, ETW, for $1.75 million (and another $1 million in attorney’s fees, a matter which remains pending before the court) claiming that Woods breached a 2001 agreement by failing to provide them with a certain number of autographs and photographs.

This isn’t the first time Gotta Have It Golf and ETW have locked horns. In 1997,  Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Woods (through Golden Bear Golf, Inc., AP Enterprises and ETW Corp.) collectively brought suit against Matthews and Gotta Have It Golf to stop the unauthorized sale of their images and signatures. Gotta Have It Golf countersued, adding IMG as a defendant, and the judge’s decision set an antitrust law precedent that a “sports and celebrity representation firm acting as professional golfers’ agent could not conspire with its principal where agent’s interests are aligned with those of the principal.”

Jury finds Woods’ company liable for damages

By Golf Channel Digital     March 13, 2014

Three days after Tiger Woods testified under oath in a Miami courtroom, a six-person jury found his company, ETW, liable for deceptive and unfair trade practices as part of a civil suit.

According to a Miami Herald report, the all-female jury sided with the plaintiff, Bruce Matthews, who claimed that Woods’ company breached a 2001 licensing agreement with his company, Gotta Have It Golf, Inc., by not providing a specified number of autographs.

The jury awarded $668,000 in damages, though after interest is calculated the total judgment will reportedly be closer to $1.3 million. According to the report, Woods’ company is expected to appeal the decision.

Hours after finishing a final-round 78 amid back pain at Trump National Doral, Woods took the stand under subpoena Monday in Miami-Dade County for more than 45 minutes. After taking this week off, Woods is expected to return to action next week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
